What I Wore Wednesday

Hello Lovelies!

Welcome to this week's edition of What I Wore Wednesday!

As I mentioned in last week's post, I'm in the middle of doing an "inventory" of my wardrobe.
To accomplish this, I've been snapping selfies of my daily outfits.

This last week, I was sick a couple of days, so I only have a few outfits to share with you.  But I hope that you enjoy...

This dress is a new favorite!  It's a maxi dress that I purchased from Piper and Scoot.  The empire waist is flattering on my "rectangle" figure, and the black floral will be wonderful all through fall and winter.

This outfit is bright and fun!  The tunic is from Gap Factory (last summer) and the jeans are from Old Navy.  (Yes, I buy a lot of Old Navy jeans...their mid-rise jeans fit me perfectly...and I love the Rock Star and Super Skinny styles).

This was my Saturday outfit...the same Old Navy jeans as in the previous photo (yep!  twice in one week.) and a boyfriend tee also from Old Navy which I always front tuck to give me a little bit of definition at the waist.  My watch is from Target and my Monogram bracelet was a GroopDealz purchase.

My final outfit includes a blouse gifted to me by my sister paired with a cardigan from Gap Factory (last season).  My jeans are from - you guessed it - Old Navy.   And my necklace is from J Crew.  Apparently this is the week of the brown lace-up shoes which I purchased last year from GroopDealz.   Also, for those that are curious, my phone case is from Rifle Paper Co.

What I Wore Wednesday

Hello Lovelies!

This week's What I Wore Wednesday is going to be a little bit different.
I have been taking inventory of what I wear on a daily basis because I am evaluating my own wardrobe and style.

So today, I'm going to share my last week's worth of outfits...all selfies taken in front of my living room mirror.  (lol!)  I am actually pretty proud of myself because I only wore blue jeans twice this week.  (No really, that's a big accomplishment).  I'm trying to mix it up a bit more.

One thing you'll notice is that I really do dress on a budget.  Sure, I'd love to go out and spend a fortune on clothes, but that's just not realistic for me.  I hope that my real life budget-friendly outfits might inspire someone out there, however.

Tee  - Merona for Target (a couple of seasons ago).  White Jeans - Merona for Target  (also older - these have always been a bit long, so this summer I cut the hem unevenly.  I like them much better now.)  Shoes - online - Groopdealz or Jane I think.

Dress:  Orange Creek    Shoes:  Online - Groopdealz

Dress:  WhoWhatWear for Target   Denim Jacket:  Thrifted- originally from Old Navy
Shoes:  Target ( a couple of seasons ago)

Tunic:  Sun and Shadow from Nordstrom   Jeans:  Old Navy

Dress:  Old Navy (This is actually my daughter's dress.  I love that it fits me.)

Classic jeans and a tee for running errands - I bought the tee forever ago and I don't actually remember where.  I love graphic tees however, and this one fits great!

Jeans:  Old Navy   Shoes: Gap Outlet

And because somebody will probably ask...my phone case is from Rifle Paper Co. :)

Have a great day!

Motivation Monday: Contentment

Hello Lovelies!

Welcome to another Motivation Monday.

This weekend I was thinking quite a bit about how things always seem to go better when I am content.  What do I mean by that?

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, I'm about to quote one of my posts (for those of you who don't follow me, you totally should.  lol!)

I try to make each of my Instagram posts motivational...if I'm given a platform like that it seems to me that I should use it for good.

On this particular Friday, I was struggling to come up with an inspirational caption.

This is what I ended up with...

"I was hoping to come up with some inspirational caption to share with all of you as we head into the weekend, instead my mind kept wandering.  I thought about my sister who had been visiting, but just headed home,  I thought about my son's college applications,  (What?!? I can't believe he's a Senior this year), I thought about how I need to clean the house now that my house guests have gone. I thought about life.  Although none of those things are particularly inspirational in and of themselves, they are my life.  And I am grateful for them.

I have a sister who is my best friend... and though we live miles apart, we still get to spend time together.  I have a son who is intelligent and driven and is excited for college and a career.  I have a house that is welcoming where family wants to come visit.

There is almost always a silver lining... a blessing in the everyday."

And thus, what started out as me searching for something inspirational to share, ended up being inspirational.  All because of contentment.  All because I took the time to see the beauty and the blessings in the little everyday things.

When we find contentment in our surroundings, contentment - not complacency - we are able to move forward with gratitude.  And gratitude, in turn, helps us to create the best possible versions of our lives.

And so  my challenge to you this week, my lovelies, is to search for your own contentment in the everyday events of life.  And let that contentment foster gratitude.

What I Wore Wednesday

Hello Lovelies!

Welcome to another edition of What I Wore Wednesday!

My body type is what is known as a Rectangle.  Basically, that means that I don't have much - if any -  curve to my shape.  My chest, waist and hip measurements are all within a couple of inches of each other...and I have long legs but am very short-waisted.

So basically, I want to avoid anything that sits at my natural waist.  Because when I wear something like that, I basically look like Steve Urkell.  (I hope that reference isn't lost on anyone).  So you know this new high-waisted trend that's coming back in?  NOT a good look for me.  I will definitely not be embracing that look.

Empire waists are amazing on us rectangles, however.  And that is basically what I chose to wear this week..

Let's start off with last week's Sunday Best...

This dress is basically an empire waist.  For those of us who are rectangles, this is a very flattering look because our rib cages are usually quite narrow and the swing of fabric as it moves out from the higher waistline gives the illusion of some curve.

Dress:  Old Navy (Last Season), Shoes:  Target

This top is oversized, but the pin tucking at the neckline has the same effect as an empire waist causing the fabric to flair out just below the pin tucks and giving the illusion of some curve.

Top:  Gap Factory Outlet,  Monogram Bracelet:  GroopDealz,  Jeans:  Old Navy

Have a great day!

Motivation Monday

For today's Motivation Monday post, I'm going to focus on something a little different.

I've been talking recently about how this year (my 45th year) is a year of transformation for me.

I am going on two months into this project and I am amazed at the amount of growth that is taking place.  One thing that I was really hoping to achieve is to be comfortable in my own skin.  And this is something that is taking more work than I thought it would.

As I am moving through this year of transformation, I am transitioning my blog to fit more and more within the framework of the things that I am working on in my own life.  And you have noticed, I'm sure, that I have been focusing a lot more on fashion.

Although I have been working in Interior Design for the past several years, my college degree is actually in Fashion Merchandising, and it has always been something that I have loved as much as Interior Design.  So sharing more of that area of my life seemed natural.

Which brings me back to being comfortable in my own skin.
I have talked a bit about my on-going weight loss journey as well.  And although I have made good progress, I have not reached my overall goal.  I will continue to strive toward that goal.  But in the meantime, I need to embrace and even LOVE the body that I currently have.

Posting photos of me for What I Wore Wednesdays has been challenging because I am still learning to love the way I look right here and right now.  But you know what?
Regardless of what I look like, my body is a tremendous gift.  And I am so grateful for it.
And I will learn to be comfortable in my own skin and to think that I am beautiful regardless of what society would have us believe is beautiful.

Are you with me?

What I Wore Wednesday

Hello Lovelies!

Welcome to another edition of What I Wore Wednesday!

Let's start things off with this cute tunic with keyhole neck purchased at Hope Ave
I purchased the top last spring and it doesn't look like it's currently available.  But if you boho style, you should definitely check out their shop!

I really do love me a tunic.  Here's another fun one purchased from Called to Surf that I paired with my good old stand by Old Navy jeans.

And finally, this pretty dress also from Called to Surf which was a gift from my sister.  I have such a soft spot for Pink.  The shoes are last season from Target.

Have a fabulous week!
